Detox your Shopping & your Closet

Operation Style believes that beauty lies within, we pride ourselves in working with a clients’ style & improving what they already have – not changing it. Everyone always wants to change, it seems no one is happy with who they already are. Our closet detox service inspires us because it forces you to be creative, to work with what you’ve got. Yes we are the biggest advocates for shopping we LOVE shopping & really who doesn’t need a little retail therapy sometimes. You need to know when to quit though when to stand back and take a look at your jam packed closet and use what you have. There needs to be more articles about ‘working with your clothes’ or ‘what’s in your closet’.  People are always amazed at what Kristy & I find in their closets that are right on trend. I’m tired of seeing magazines, websites, and stores pushing you to buy, buy, buy, buy...you can never buy enough! There will always be one more thing that you want, one more dress for summer, one more pair of heels ...and in the same breath half of your closet is most likely unused and untouched. I feel like a bit of a hypocrite because I am guilty of all of these things constantly telling myself “this bag is a NEED not a want!” and guess what...I have a little secret hidden under my bed - two containers filled with unused bags.

At the end of the day when the closet detox is over it is the most gratifying feeling (no not because we’re tired and can’t wait to kick our heels up with a ‘dirty grey goose martini with extra olives please’) knowing how happy the client is whose house we just left. We leave knowing that they have a whole new outlook on themselves, their bodies, their closets, and shopping. I encourage everyone to challenge yourselves – when you do go shopping go with a purpose. Look for something that will complete your wardrobe or an outfit.

And the next time you go shopping try having all your girlfriends over with a bottle of wine and shop your closet instead. It’s surprising how much fun it can be trying on outfits from your own closet - you never know just what you may find and what you all may come up with.

If you're still having problems with the whole 'detoxing' take on life then you know who to call - Operation Style.  Email us at info@operationstyle.ca and we'll customize a package for you.

With Love,
Jillian

  1. I'm such a big fan of your message! Lately I've been cleaning out my closet and reconsidering the possibilities of what I already have, how I can wear items in new ways. It's interesting that you say magazines are always pushing us to buy, buy, buy. I've been getting into Japanese fashion magazines lately and I find them to be a refreshing change of pace. The Western mags are all about what's new, what's exciting, what's up-to-the-minute, but the Japanese magazines are chock full of visuals and styling inspiration. You can look at an outfit in a Japanese mag and realize that you already have most of the pieces; it's just that you've never thought about putting them together that way.
