A Day At The Races

Last week I attended the 'Thoroughbred At The Races' party (yes this post is late if that's what you're thinking) & the theme was of course non other than Kentucky Derby.  I wanted to post a few of my favorite pictures from the event so you can see some of the amazing outfits!  I was wearing electric blue peep toe heels - Aldo, zebra print dress - Zara, silver/gold sequin clutch - BCBGMaxazria, drop pearl earrings - BCBGMaxazria, floppy hat (I cinched in the front with a little stitch) - H&M.  It was an incredible day & the most fun I've had at an event like this one in a long time.  Enjoy the pictures & also check out Boudoir Boutique's blog to read more on the event & see more pictures.  Lots of love as always!

Twilight Premier

I was debating whether or not to post these pictures because unlike the millions of screaming fans who eat, sleep, breath Twilight I am on neither Edwards or Jakes team.  I'll be the "cherry picker" (elementary school lingo for the little trader who plays on both teams at recess).  Yes I have definitely watched all the movies & even read the first book but I think I would have to be living under a rock to not take part in the Twilight saga somehow.  I will also guiltily admit that I got more then a little excited to learn Robert Pattinson was living not even a block away from me while filming in Vancouver...who wouldn't be though! Okay so I was extremely impressed when I saw how rakish our two Twilight hunks looked in their perfectly tailored Gucci suits.  Robert just can't seem to get away from the colour red...but I much prefer his suit to blood!  Kristen looks stunning in her glamorous yet edgy one sleeve Ellie Saab couture dress covered in cream sequins.  I had to add the photo of Nikki Reed as well, it was love at first sight when I laid eyes on this little Marchesa number.  In my opinion it's absolutely perfect, two thumbs way up Nikki as Ebert & Roeper would say.

Brian Atwood Resort 2011 Collection

If I could marry a shoe it would be the entire Brian Atwood Resort 2011 collection... does that make me a polygamist? After seeing the collection I knew it was love at first sight.  In the Resort 2011 Brian also designed his first collection of flats called the "Hampton"- they are a chic moccasins gone loafer style and are in a wide range of bright colors.
"It's all about a great exit.  Colors and details were important for this collection," he added. "I wanted beautiful, sweet colors but with an edge. They're provocative!" - Brian Atwood
Brian not only achieved a great exit but an amazing entrance.  Any one of these are sure to be the perfect va-va-voom to finish off any outfit.  Picture yourself strolling around on a beautiful day with glowing tanned legs sporting the perfect pair of zebra print flats or strutting to your favorite hot spot wearing any one of these to-die-for heels.  I'm planning my outfits to go with each pair right now... what's a girl to do?!

Also keep your eye out for a pair of over-the-knee, platform suede boots in a neutral palette with a chain embellishment up the entire back.  Brian Atwood and long time friend Rachel Zoe collaborated on the boots that are expected to retail for $3000.

Detox your Shopping & your Closet

Operation Style believes that beauty lies within, we pride ourselves in working with a clients’ style & improving what they already have – not changing it. Everyone always wants to change, it seems no one is happy with who they already are. Our closet detox service inspires us because it forces you to be creative, to work with what you’ve got. Yes we are the biggest advocates for shopping we LOVE shopping & really who doesn’t need a little retail therapy sometimes. You need to know when to quit though when to stand back and take a look at your jam packed closet and use what you have. There needs to be more articles about ‘working with your clothes’ or ‘what’s in your closet’.  People are always amazed at what Kristy & I find in their closets that are right on trend. I’m tired of seeing magazines, websites, and stores pushing you to buy, buy, buy, buy...you can never buy enough! There will always be one more thing that you want, one more dress for summer, one more pair of heels ...and in the same breath half of your closet is most likely unused and untouched. I feel like a bit of a hypocrite because I am guilty of all of these things constantly telling myself “this bag is a NEED not a want!” and guess what...I have a little secret hidden under my bed - two containers filled with unused bags.

At the end of the day when the closet detox is over it is the most gratifying feeling (no not because we’re tired and can’t wait to kick our heels up with a ‘dirty grey goose martini with extra olives please’) knowing how happy the client is whose house we just left. We leave knowing that they have a whole new outlook on themselves, their bodies, their closets, and shopping. I encourage everyone to challenge yourselves – when you do go shopping go with a purpose. Look for something that will complete your wardrobe or an outfit.

And the next time you go shopping try having all your girlfriends over with a bottle of wine and shop your closet instead. It’s surprising how much fun it can be trying on outfits from your own closet - you never know just what you may find and what you all may come up with.

If you're still having problems with the whole 'detoxing' take on life then you know who to call - Operation Style.  Email us at info@operationstyle.ca and we'll customize a package for you.
