Designer water just tastes better

Evian water teams up with yet another designer to create a new bottle for 2010. The most recent is British designer Paul Smith. Smith is known for his trademark multicolored stripe and his fresh and childlike outlook certainly shows through on the third installment of the Evian Designer Bottle Series. Smiths predecessors include Hermes creative director Jean-Paul Gaultier for 2009 and Christian Lacroix for 2008. This is yet another unnecessary piece of fashion novelty that OS LOVES!

Waffles & Falafels

We discovered Waffles & Falafels on Twitter and immediately loved them...if you read a couple of their tweets you'll understand why.  They're not just a brand but a lifestyle - these girls are the new generation, they're real girls from all over the globe who are all leaders, trend setters, entrepreneurs, students, musicians, & artists.  W&F is the new tee that's a must have...Junk Food was so last year - watch out because Waffles & Falafels are taking over.  Whether you're a "scenester" or a "yogirl" there's a tee for everyone.  Celebrities such as Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Alba, Lauren Conrad, & Sky Ferreira just to name a few can all be spotted wearing Waffles & Falafels.  Os loves W&F and thinks they could very easily end up becoming a huge company like Wild Fox one day (http://www.wildfoxcouture.com/).  What's next for them...a store perhaps? Trashy Vs. Classy

This blog post inspired me when I was out & about this week & rudely reminded of the horrid clear bra straps when they were spotted hanging out of a strapless dress.  Buy a strapless bra or rock the straps if NEED be...just make sure they're the same colour as the straps on the top you're wearing. NEVER, NEVER wear a strapless top or dress with the bra straps hanging out-period.  This is an extreme comparison but definitely gets the point across!

Every year around this time we start to think about our loved ones and what we could get for them that would make them smile on Christmas morning. As women we think we are the difficult ones to buy for, and it's always the men in our lives asking our girlfriends, sisters and even our mothers what we would love. November hits and the temperatures have dropped - fall is here but winter is definitely just around the corner.  If you haven't brought out your scarves already it's definitely about time to do so.  We're constantly being asked especially by men how they should wear their scarves & what they don't know is the possibilities are endless.  Here's five ways to wear them:

Kristy's adventure at the San Pedro Wholesale Mart

The way of the world has made a shift.  History often has a habit of repeating itself as I discovered when I found myself in the midst of a recession which is perhaps becoming a progression.

On a recent trip to LA I experienced North America’s largest woman’s wear market. In business since 1994 the market host approximately 300 wholesale shops.

 At first, the experience was overwhelming - physically, mentally and visually. I went on this trip as a favor to a friend who is embarking on her first endeavor as a boutique owner. She has personally handled every aspect of the business - from the lease improvements, right down to the hanging of each one of her beautiful pieces with custom made hang tags.

We spent the first day plotting and planning exploring the mart and trying uncover all its hidden treasure, which we still found more 3 hours before we left town. The market place is the hub of moderate to better priced US merchandise.  Its blocks of shops were filled with current, trendy well-made merchandise, that I was honestly shocked to find. Being a bit of a retail snob myself, I came to appreciate this new world. The colors were well forecasted and the shapes were right off the runways; silhouettes seen at Balmain and Balenciaga, patterns and colors seen at Prada and Oscar De La Renta, and sleek and soft fabrics of Alexander Wang. After my weekend on Robertson and in Barney’s I had a pang of cognitive dissonance and I was in love.

With the current state of the economy, designer brands are finding it difficult to survive. In Japan, Yohji Yamamoto Inc., a fashion house based out of Paris known for his avant guard black designs, recently filed for bankruptcy.  Yohji is well known for his collaborations with Adidas, Hermes and Mikimoto.  Numerous other powerhouse brands have also filed for bankruptcy such as Christian Lacroix and Bill Blass to name a few.
The fact of the matter is women love to get new clothes, nothing makes you feel more confident when you walk into a dinner, work or – tis the season, a Christmas party, so we are turning to less expensive options during a prolonged economic downturn. Though here at Operation Style we are still advocates for investing in quality pieces that will last, the items I came across were just that, with a lower price.

Obviously Chic Boutique opened in Estevan, Saskatchewan yesterday, she has already sold out of 5 styles and doubled her projected income for her first day. We are so proud of our friend Jessica and all her hard work.
